About the vacancy
As our Arborist Team Leader (COSS), you will join our Rail Arboriculture team – operating on rail sites throughout Essex.
As our Arborist Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
· Interpreting requirements, effectively planning and delivering all elements of railway de-vegetation works
· Completing all works to high and safe standards, adhering to internal procedures and industry standards
· Effectively and safely supervising a small team in de-vegetation works, completing Risk Assessments and Team Briefings
· Operating all plant, tools and equipment necessary to complete work ensuring a high standard of equipment care (i.e. ensure pre-user checks completed, defects escalated and recorded, etc)
· Safe removal/clearance of vegetation as per contract requirements – carrying out accurate tree identification and ensuring work sites are left tidy
· Responding sensitively and appropriately to queries from lineside residents
· Observing and following all applicable safe methods of working, and health, safety and environmental rules/procedures
· Reporting any incidents or Close Calls immediately to the appropriate person
To be successful as our Arborist Team Leader, we would ideally like you to have the following:
· Recent experience working as an operative in vegetation clearance (within the Railway sector/environment)
· Proficiency/skill in climbing/working at height
· Competencies including PTS, COSS, Chainsaw, Aerial Rescue, Lead Climber, Chainsaw from Rope & Harness
· Understanding of leading/coaching/mentoring and developing a team

· You will be confident working with various tools and possess a good working knowledge of health and safety practices
· You will take pride in your work, completing tasks to a high standard – self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
· A natural ability to build good working relationships with clients and colleagues
· Methodical approach to problem-solving with excellent attention to detail
· Regular drugs and alcohol testing
The role can be physically demanding – and you will be required to work outside, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer.
